PROJECTS: Community Planning: Light
The community housing plan is intended to have a minimal environmental impact on the land while preserving the indigenous prairie. Each lot is arranged to have a private yard, with native evergreen trees which provide wind blocks and privacy for each home. The housing models are set up so that each one has a sought after western view of the Rocky Mountains and southern exposure. The structures are designed to take full advantage of passive solar heating and cooler southern breezes in the summer. Moving from east to west, the houses become lower and less dense to allow great views and a more open feel towards the mountains. The prairie grass corridors throughout the housing allows for the drainage of water for irrigation to the central community park. Site specific housing models, pervious roadways, native grasses, trees and a central community park define this community.
