PROJECTS: RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS: Hilltop Residence
Set on top of a hilltop with spectacular views, the design of this house and property is intended to become a livable piece of art. 75% of the site was restored to its indigenous prairie landscape. Three white monolithic concrete pieces act as outdoor seating and sculpture unifying the pure architecture with the site. Concrete paving is broken up with plantings and crushed stone to absorb and slow down the stormwater runoff. Accent lighting is provided for various outdoor entertainment opportunities. A long linear reflecting pool extends the axis of the interior art gallery into the greater landscape. The reflecting pool is experienced from various rooms both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor patios are intersected with green bands of vegetation to ease reflectivity and stormwater runoff.
A Redbud tree becomes the sculpture of the courtyard while a minimal palette of materials define the spaces.
