PROJECTS: RESIDENTIAL PROJECTS: Old Quaker Hill
The rural charm of this historic house and property with its rolling fields, majestic trees and forest edges captures the views to the valley below. The goal was to restore the visual connection to the front of this old house while balancing some privacy from the nearby country road. An old stonewall along the upper lawn area had gone into disrepair and was buried in overgrown vegetation. The new design allowed the house and site to open up to the western valley views and sunsets while a hornbeam hedge provides a visual buffer from the road below. The retaining wall was rebuilt using stone found on site to tie into the historic look. A large boulder was unearthed during construction and was cut to provide linear stone steps, which create a visual tempo leading to the stone steps and up to the front door.
